As of 1 July 2020, PostFinance will be increasing the fees for making inpayments at branch counters and at other physical Swiss Post access points. This will apply to inpayments with red inpayment slips (IS) and orange inpayment slips with reference number (ISR). Additionally, PostFinance has set the prices for inpayments using the new QR bill, which Switzerland’s financial center will introduce on 30 June 2020. All new prices have been discussed with the price regulator, which has classified them as acceptable and approved them by mutual agreement.

PostFinance to increase counter payment fees
If invoices are paid at physical Swiss Post access points (Swiss Post branches, branches with partners, ATMs for paying invoices, home delivery service or branch offices within military training areas), the invoice issuer (inpayment recipient) incurs a fee: the counter payment fee. It helps at least partly to cover the costs of this service.
Because payment transactions are becoming increasingly digitized, more and more people are paying their invoices with online banking. As a result, the number of transactions carried out at physical Swiss Post access points has fallen by more than a third over the past 12 years. At the same time, increasing regulatory requirements are also leading to higher processing costs. This is why counter payment transactions are operating at a significant loss today.
The first price increase in 12 years
To ensure counter payment transactions can still be offered nationwide in future, and to ensure they remain part of the public service, PostFinance is increasing counter payment fees for the first time in 12 years. A mutual agreement was reached in cooperation with the price regulator.

Free alternatives
The eBill allows invoice issuers to reduce the fees for counter payments. Invoice recipients (those making inpayments at counters) will, as a rule, still be able to pay invoices at the counter free of charge. Some invoice issuers, however, will pass the counter payment fee on to the invoice recipient. This can be avoided by paying invoices with online banking. With written payment orders, PostFinance customers who do not use digital banking products have an alternative that does not involve counter payment fees.
