Make contactless payments

All PostFinance credit and debit cards come with the contactless function as standard. When making a small payment, simply hold your card up to the terminal − and you’ve paid. You need to enter your PIN for payments over 100 francs (80 francs for credit or debit Mastercard).

Here‘s how it works

  1. Just hold your card up to a card terminal with the contactless symbol
  2. Wait for the light to flash
  3. Your purchases have been paid for

The contactless function is activated as standard. However, entering your PIN is always required for the first contactless payment.

Contactless payments can be made anywhere you see the contactless symbol. This is the case at most points of sale in Switzerland.

In e-finance

Step 1

Select the PostFinance card you want to disable the contactless function for and click on “Settings”.

Step 2

You can disable contactless payments at the bottom of the page. Then save your changes.

Login e-finance

  • You can also deactivate contactless payments in the app. You can find this function under More > My cards > Contactless payment

  • You can deactivate the function for a PostFinance Card at a Postomat.

Contactless payments are safe for the following reasons:

  • The card remains in your hand during the whole payment.
  • The data transfer occurs only when the card is close to the card reader.
  • Each transaction has a unique security code, preventing instances of multiple use or false codes.

For amounts over 100 francs (80 francs with the Debit Mastercard) you are required to enter your PIN.

  • Have you checked in e-finance or the PostFinance App whether the contactless payment function is activated?

    If you are still unable to make contactless payments, you can find information on how to order a new replacement card under “Block or unblock card or order a new card”.

  • The contactless payment function is activated automatically for all cards. If you have deactivated the contactless function of your PostFinance Card, you can only reactivate your card at a Postomat.

  • The following limits apply for contactless payment without PIN entry with the PostFinance Card:

    • Up to CHF 100 with the PostFinance Card
    • Up to CHF 80 with Debit Mastercard at sales outlets that accept only Mastercard.

    The limit cannot be adjusted. You need to enter your PIN for higher amounts.
