How to pay QR-bills

The QR-bill is the invoicing standard for the Swiss financial center. There are a range of options available to you for paying QR-bills.

Pay QR-bills with the PostFinance App

Scan QR-bills on paper

Open the “Payments” menu in the PostFinance App, select “QR scanner” and scan the QR code with your phone’s camera. Alternatively, you can find the QR scanner directly on the home screen at the top right, or you can open the QR scanner on the login screen at the bottom.

Tip for quick access: if you press and hold the PostFinance App Icon for a few seconds when logged out, you can directly select the scan function via “QR scanner”.

Receive QR-bills as a file (e.g. as a PDF by e-mail)

You can import files saved on your smartphone from the PostFinance App using “QR scanner” > “Upload invoice”. You can find the “QR scanner” under payments or directly on the home screen. It‘s even faster if you import the file from the e-mail app directly into the PostFinance App using the “Share” feature on iOS and Android.

Pay QR-bills in e-finance

Scan paper invoices with your webcam

  • On the “Enter payment” tile, select the “Pay QR-bill” function and then “Camera” as the source in the next view.
  • Before you can use the camera, you will need to give your web browser permission to allow e-finance to access your webcam and activate the camera.
  • Hold the QR code steady in front of the camera in the square on the screen. It usually takes just a few seconds to scan the code. Once successfully scanned, the QR-bills will be listed at the bottom of the page.
  • Check the scanned payment details, select the relevant bills, and then pay these via “Execute selected”.

Tip: if you use e-finance on a Mac, you can use your iPhone’s camera as a webcam. Under “Available cameras”, select your iPhone from the list. Your devices need at least the operating systems macOS Ventura and iOS 16.

Pay QR-bills without a camera (e.g. receive PDF by e-mail)

  • Save the QR-bill file to your computer.
  • On the “Enter payment” tile, select the “Pay QR-bill” function and then “PDF/file” as the source in the next view.
  • Select the previously saved QR-bill file or drag it directly onto the grey area. Once they have been successfully uploaded, the QR-bills will be listed at the bottom of the page.
  • Check the uploaded payment details, select the relevant bills, and then pay these via “Execute selected”.

Pay QR-bills with a slip scanner

  • Slip scanners are particularly useful for users with a high paper invoice volume and/or users who can’t or don’t want to use a webcam for scanning.
  • On the “Enter payment” tile, select the “Pay QR-bill” function and then “Slip scanner” as the source in the next view. Place the cursor by clicking the mouse in the empty “Scan QR code” field.
  • Now scan the invoices one after the other with the slip scanner. Once successfully scanned, the QR-bills will be listed at the bottom of the page.
  • Check the scanned payment details, select the relevant bills, and then pay these via “Execute selected”.

Tip for quick access: on the e-finance home screen, place the cursor in the “Enter payment” tile by clicking with the mouse in the “Recipient” field, and then scan the QR code using the slip scanner. Once successfully scanned, the payment entry process will open.

What can I do if it doesn’t work? The following tips can help you

  • Make sure your smartphone has the latest operating system version installed. You should also always have the latest version of the PostFinance App installed. You can download these in the App Store for iOS and in the Google Play Store for Android.
  • To ensure there are no problems when using e-finance, always run the latest version of your Internet browser (e.g. Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome).
  • Make sure there’s enough light when scanning. Hold the QR code steady and centered in front of the camera.
  • If the QR code is missing or unreadable for the scanner, you can also capture the payment manually. You can do this in the PostFinance App in the “Payments” area, or in e-finance on the “Enter payment” tile.

Other payment options

  • You can approve as many QR-bills to PostFinance as you like using a payment order form. Here’s how it works:

    1. Request a payment order form from PostFinance
    2. Enter the number of payment slips, the total amount and the execution date
    3. Sign the payment order

Payment slip with QR code: please only send us the payment part in A6 format, not the entire QR-bill (A4 format).

Hand in the order, together with the payment slips, at the post office counter in a franked envelope or use the letter boxes at the post offices. In municipalities offering a home service, give the letter to the mail carrier (in Switzerland).

    Set up payment orders

  • Is your QR-bill for a recurring payment (e.g. rent)? We recommend setting up a standing order. You can submit this in various ways:

    • With ease in the PostFinance App or in e-finance
    • In a self-operated Swiss Post branch (only for transfers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein)
    • In writing with a form

    Order standing order

  • You can pay QR-bills at all self-operated and partner-run Swiss Post branches. You can also pay using the home service or at invoicing terminals at selected Swiss Post branches.

To do this, separate the payment part with the QR code and receipt from the rest of the bill. If the QR-bill is not perforated, cut along the separator lines. Please do not hand over the entire QR-bill (A4 format) to staff.

  • With the electronic payment order (EPO), you can process your QR payments reliably with The link will open in a new window accounts payable software.
