Equality in the company – and beyond

What is the Swiss population’s attitude to equality? What do we need to discuss, and where do we need to take action? PostFinance is committed to successful cooperation within the company and beyond – for example, through the RealTalk platform or by joining the Gisler Protocol.

From households to wages and pensions: facts and figures on equality in Switzerland

What makes Switzerland tick when it comes to equality and money? This is what PostFinance wanted to find out in a study conducted in 2023 by gfs-zürich, a market and social research institute. More than 1,500 participants from all over Switzerland provided information on the state of equality in their relationships and families, careers and salaries, finances and pensions, and consumption and purchases. The results (see above) show that equality in terms of money is not yet a given – for example, when it comes to income. 27 percent of all women surveyed and as many as 32 percent of mothers with a net income of 3,000 francs are low earners, compared to only 19 percent of men and 8 percent of fathers. There is also an imbalance when it comes to who takes care of the household. 65 percent of women state that they do more housework than their partner.

Discussing gender equality

So there’s still a lot to discuss and tackle when it comes to equality. PostFinance is making a contribution to this through the RealTalk platform. The financial institution organizes opportunities such as live events at which exciting guests share their personal experiences on selected equality topics. The topics and guests at the events change, but the concept remains the same: RealTalk doesn’t mince its words. In 2023, for example, presenter Andrea Jansen and author Christoph Simon discussed the topic of “Housewives and househusbands: retirement planning, earnings and prejudices” in Bern. In Lausanne, former professional tennis player Timea Bacsinszky and author Benjamin Décosterd discussed “The gender pay gap – why money makes a difference”, and in Zurich, actress Susanne Kunz and musician Andres Andrekson, alias Stress, debated the same topic. Have a listen yourself: all past discussions are also available as podcasts on the platform. Curious to find out what’s on in 2024?

PostFinance is a member of the Gisler Protocol

PostFinance implements numerous measures within and outside the company to promote  equality and diversity. For example, the financial institution has also been a member of the Gisler Protocol since 2023. It is committed to diverse representation of gender in marketing, communication and advertising. “By joining the Gisler Protocol, we are sending out a clear signal for something that is important to us – namely, to help reflect our diverse society and create more connectivity for very different groups of people and lifestyles,” says Ron Schneider, Head of Human Resources at PostFinance. The Gisler Protocol now has over 160 members from all over Switzerland. PostFinance is the first advertising company in Switzerland to sign up to the Gisler Protocol. This is because PostFinance is convinced that diversity is a key factor in its success – both today and in the future.
